Is AI the teacher of the future? As well as in any other aspect of life, technology is rapidly aiming to change the landscape of education in the next few years. Even if the changes that those technologies are bringing are not noticeable everywhere, they are in their way. A study from the IFF has just revealed that 85% of the jobs that will exist in 2030 haven't even been invented yet. So, how can education that has barely changed in the last 50 years adapt to those changes quickly enough to follow the pace? Are we letting technology fly ahead, away from our students? Are we letting them learn and adapt to those technologies on their own? Will A.I., together with other technologies like V.R. or hologram, be the teacher of the future? Customized textbooks, a new position of human teachers in the classroom, long life learning and the dangers of those technologies in the hands of young students are some of the areas that we touch on in this documentary, guided by experts on education, technology, and science.

Dan Fitzpatrick comes to Thinking Digital to discuss how artificial intelligence will dramatically change formal education as we know it.

While that might sound threatening to teachers, Dan foresees a future where AI can bring huge improvements to education making our system far better for students, educators and society.

Dan Fitzpatrick is the author of the acclaimed book, The AI Classroom: The Ultimate Guide to Artificial Intelligence in Education, offering insights and tactics for harnessing AI in education.

Dan’s former roles include serving as Director for Digital Strategy at Education Partnership North East, and as a senior leader at a secondary school. Presently, he assumes the role of Director at Thirdbox.org, Director at Edufuturists, and Director of Scout Industries.

In 2023 alone, Dan has trained approximately 6,000 educators worldwide, guiding them in the integration of AI into education. Additionally, he has partnered with hundreds of small business leaders and marketing professionals, such as those from Welsh Water and Cleanspec Cumbria, to enhance their practices using artificial intelligence.

He has featured on prominent media platforms such as Good Morning Britain, BBC Radio 4, ITV News, and This World on WION, where he discussed the implications and potential of AI in education and beyond. Dan holds an M.A. from Durham University, a PGCE from UCL, and a Post Graduate Diploma in Design Thinking & Innovation from MIT.

Robert Clapperton shares why generative AI will set education back 2500 years, and why that’s a good thing. Robert presents an optimistic perspective, suggesting that AI can revolutionize education by creating a digital extension of teachers. Robert Clapperton is an Assistant Professor in the School of Professional Communications at Ryerson University. Robert earned his PhD in English Language and Literature with a Graduate Diploma in Cognitive Science at the University of Waterloo. He specializes in computational linguistics with an emphasis on the critical application of natural language processing in education. Robert’s teaching focuses on the digital enterprise and communication research methods. Robert is a co-founder and inventor of Ametros Learning, a natural language understanding experiential learning platform focused on the teaching and practicing communication, critical thinking, and emotional  intelligence.
